Everyone hates a knock-off product. However, this post is for those who have been looking for a suitable alternative for those peanut butter cups we all know and love.  Well, maybe not all of us. Some of you might not have been able to taste them because of an allergy to nuts, or simply, the taste is just far too sweet. Thankfully, free2b foods has vegans, vegetarians, and allergen-sensitive people in mind!

The imitation of these cups to their peanut butter counterparts is seriously deceiving– and I mean that in the best way.  The popular variety has chocolate that is too sweet and peanut butter that often is so gritty that I start coughing. Maybe I’m a baby, but food shouldn’t hurt you like that. It could also be that my sweet tooth gets the best of me and I eat too much in one sitting…

These free2b cups are simply delightful.  The outer shell casing is dark chocolate. Need I say more? Well, I should.  The slight bitterness in the chocolate is perfect in keeping that flavour palate completely in balance! This means that any of the other flavours will have no flavour distinguishing themselves from the chocolate.  And of course, the dark chocolate helps to bring out and carry the other flavours forward, too!

The filling is a story on its own.  The butter filling is actually made without nuts or allergens, which means you can enjoy this guilt-free and worry free! The flavour comes close to the popular variety, but there is a noticeable and more enjoyable difference.  The filling is sweet, but not overpowering. Overall, each cup is sweet, but neutral. To me, this helped to keep me from over-indulging.

When it comes to texture, the overall mini-cup is that of what you could expect of any peanut butter cup, but much much smoother.  The purity of the dark chocolate helps just as much as the smoothness of the sunflower seed butter.

If the packaging of these minis were a little smaller, I could see myself going everywhere with these. The beach, the theatre, on a picnic, and event to my parents’ house. It almost sounds like things could get too serious too soon. I kid. However, there is no joke in where you can take them, the bag itself is too large, but that shouldn’t stop you from transferring them over to a small container or resealable bag.
